Quality Assurance > Scrupulous Editing and Proofing

Added Value: Professional Translators (All Native Speakers), Translation Tools and Localization Standards

Far too many translators and translation agencies have earned themselves a bad reputation. We are different.

E-globalcom.net embraces client satisfaction as a defining principle, and we've built a reputation as a round-the-clock high-quality provider. As a professional language partner, we only work with the best people available and never stop investing in technology. It's common sense: we help our people achieve their full potential, we increase productivity, and we deliver better end products to our clients.

Click here to find out how our customers and translators feel about our working methods.

Our professionalism is based on three pillars

Quality Control: A Matter of Clear Standards
Round-the-Clock Turnkey Quality Translations? Beware of the Pitfalls!
At e-globalcom.net, we are committed to delivering the consistent and outstanding quality our clients expect. This can only be achieved by constant quality measurements and standardization. Our translators and editors are required to follow the same consistent procedures and to apply fixed criteria. We understand that every word and every punctuation mark holds the potential for error. While we do not claim a "zero fault" quality control, we do take pride in rendering world-class service to our clients. This is why we put great emphasis on editing. Operating under the motto Trust, but verify, our editors are always in search of that last remaining error.
Satisfaction Guaranteed

Our customer references pay tribute to our professionalism and experience.
All translations are stringently edited before delivery. Each step of the translation process receives scrupulous work-in-progress quality testing, and our clients can rest assured that our texts meet the most demanding standards in the translation business: DIN 2345 and the LISA Quality Assurance system.

  DIN 2345

Certifying body
: DIN Certco, Berlin (http://www2.din.de/index.php?lang=en)

Standard: DIN 2345 QA

The German DIN certification guarantees quality, security, efficiency, and reliability in a great many sectors.
The DIN 2345 standard specifically applies to the language industry and determines the conditions for translation contracts. E-globalcom.net has been authorized to use the DIN logo because our translation process closely adheres to this high standard. The full text of the standard is available on request. As an example, DIN 2345 states that the following elements are to be checked when editing translations:
  • completeness
  • conformity and terminological accuracy, in view of the intended use of the text
  • spelling, grammar, and adequate usage
  • agreements with the client about the target text and the translator's comments
Of course, these serve as general parameters. The scope of each editing process and its individual components depend on the intended use of the translation.
In any case, thorough editing must include much more than a spelling check, which is all that many translation agencies do. The gobbledy-gook of the well-known Ode to the Spell Checker makes this abundantly clear.

 Ode to the Spell Checker

Eye halve a spell chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.
As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.
Eye have run this poem threw
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

The Localization Industry Standards Association LISA (www.lisa.org) is an international organization composed of translation sector representatives and major end-clients such as Microsoft, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard. It has developed the LISA Quality Assurance system — or LISA QA — as an international standard for localization projects.

Standard
: LISA Quality Assurance for localization projects

The LISA QA system provides four main benefits to the client
  1. It makes a distinction between language and formatting, with a third software quality area of functionality (malfunctions due to translation). For each of these three aspects, LISA QA distinguishes a number of error categories with strict standards.
  2. The LISA system has managed to make quality quantifiable by establishing a consensus on how many errors are permissible.
  3. There is a qualitative distinction between minor and serious errors. One serious error has the same weight as five minor ones. A single error in the third category — critical errors — is enough to reject the project. The permissible number of minor and serious errors depends on the number of words to be translated. The sum is calculated automatically in Excel templates and yields a final score, which is either Pass or Fail.
  4. To maximize the chances of success, a test revision is carried out when 10% of the work — or a maximum of 5,000 words — has been translated. Meanwhile, the translators continue with their work so the deadline will not be jeopardized. They are then given additional instructions based on their test translation. At this stage, the project manager checks to see that all instructions are properly understood, clarifying and directing where necessary.

  E-globalcom.net workflow solution

Since 1992, e-globalcom.net has earned itself the reputation of being a reliable supplier of multilingual communication. Our references leave no doubt about this. The quality we have supplied from the very beginning has been largely the result of continuous revision and inspection.

Word-of-mouth advertising has earned us the trust and support of many important clients, and we are handling increasingly large volumes of text.

This growth has not always been easy, of course. Excellent linguists are hard to find. But we have continued to raise our standards, and we have spent a great deal of time and effort recruiting the right people for the right job. In addition to continuous investment in our people, further expansion has also required us to take a proactive approach to streamlining our workflow.

With the introduction of the e-globalcom translation portal and our fully automated e-workflow, we are now well ahead of most other agencies. Our e-workflow offers our clients five major quality advantages:

1. High Responsiveness

2. Informed Selection of Translators and Solid Planning

3. Constant Quality Control

4. Smooth Internal Information Flow

5. Smooth External Information Flow

1. High Responsiveness
You can transmit orders or request quotes automatically via the Internet — no need to wait until an internal traffic manager has entered the contents of your e-mail into our order database. The same person who was responsible for your last text is automatically notified and assigned as your account manager. For larger jobs, he or she can appoint a project manager who will manage your project and carry final responsibility for it.
2. Informed Selection of Translators and Solid Planning
Our account managers have a real-time overview of our staff's workload, so they're in an excellent position to decide who will produce the first draft of your text. We reserve 10% of the total available time for planning (including the selection of translators), 50% for producing the first draft (60% for experienced translators), and 20% for the second draft. The remaining time goes to double-checking and/or unexpected problems. As soon as we confirm your order, you can start tracking its status online.
3. Constant Quality Control
Our editing process is based on the DIN 2345 and LISA QA standards, which make quality quantifiable. Our document version management is fully automated. The different versions of a file are systematically compared by specialized software that keeps track of revisions and commits them to:
  • LISA revision reports
  • our QA database
  • statistics to facilitate the selection process of translators.

Precise information on what was changed in a text is invaluable. It:

  • is useful as feedback to the translator
  • gives an accurate picture of the progress made by translators
  • reduces the number of errors in future texts
  • gives our account or project manager valuable information when selecting translators.
4. Smooth Internal Information Flow
When one of our team members uploads his/her version, the person who is to check this version is automatically notified by e-mail. The account or project manager who carries final responsibility can automatically deliver the documents to the client, or assign the job to another team member for extra checking. Each time the file is transferred, there is room for feedback thanks to an ingenious Q&A e-mail system.
5. Smooth External Information Flow
Our clients are automatically informed of any inextricable problems.
They can track the status of their order(s) online, and they have access to a historical overview that enables them to download duplicates of older translations and/or invoices.
