What Can We Globalize for You?

E-globalcom.net offers more than translation services. It is a one-stop solution for any communication challenge you have. Our goal is to deliver quality in all stages of multilingual text production, from writing and translating through editing and proofing to publishing and project management.

All texts written or translated by e-globalcom.net are carefully edited before they leave our office. We offer the same service for texts you have written yourself.

In the international translation market, a distinction is made between editing and proofing. In addition, it makes a difference whether or not the text needs to be contrasted.

  Contrasting
Contrasting Source Text and Target Text

Contrasting means that the source and target text are compared using the following checklist, based on the German DIN 2345 standard for translations:

  1. completeness
  2. conformity and terminological accuracy, taking into account the intended use of the text
  3. spelling, grammar, and adequate usage
  4. agreements made with the client on the target text
  5. the translator's comments
It goes without saying that these are general parameters. According to the DIN 2345 standard itself, the intensity given to checking each separate component depends on the purpose of the translation. We consistently maintain that the importance of meticulous editing is generally underestimated, and as proof we encounter entirely too many translated texts that are full of mistakes, some very funny but often also very embarrassing. Our senior editors combine an eagle eye for detail with many years of experience. In case of doubt, and after consultation with the translator, they will make the final call on required changes.

 Target editing

Good editors do more than just correct errors; they improve the text in many ways.

For a translated text to read as an original, a second editing round is essential. The emphasis this time is not to compare the translation to the source text, but to improve its style, readability, and impact. At this stage, we focus on the target text and only refer to the source text when there is an interpretation problem.

  Proofing

Proofing or proofreading leaves no room for preferential changes: the purpose is to correct errors that slipped through previous stages of the writing process. Since this is the final check before delivery, any unnecessary changes could give rise to new errors.

Proofing is closely connected to proofs, another area in which we have many years of experience. When the layout is done by a third party, there is a significant risk of printer's errors slipping into the final text. To avoid this, you may delegate proofing to one of our native speakers. An even more effective way of avoiding this problem is to leave the entire design and layout of your text to e-globalcom.net. We are one of the few translation agencies to offer a complete range of services that includes print-ready page layout and prepress.

Proofing on Paper: Standard Correction Marks

When proofreading a paper copy, the use of standard correction marks not only speeds up the process, it also simplifies the task of the person entering the corrections in the final version. By highlighting every correction with a marker pen, our proofreaders make sure that not a single one is ignored.

Proofing a File: PDF Post-Its

PDF files are becoming increasingly popular, both in the professional printing industry and for private use.

Files in this Portable Document Format can be viewed with Acrobat Reader, which is available on the Internet free of charge. However, to edit these files, you need the full version of Acrobat. Some of our customers ask their printer to send us their PDF files for proofing. In these files, we mark printer's errors and other mistakes using the Note message feature, which tags the corrections to the error by means of an electronic Post-It.

Thorough, appropriate editing involves more than just launching a spell checker. Every single word, letter, and punctuation mark has to be checked! The famous Ode to the Spell Checker makes it clear in a very funny way.
